State-run oil marketing companies have directed over 93,000 petrol pumps across the country to check their storage tanks and dispensing nozzles for water every two to eight hours depending on shifts and weather conditions. The new directive aims to protect the quality of 20% ethanol-blended petrol, as ethanol readily absorbs surrounding moisture. The first order was issued in July, followed by another recent order in late October. Officials stated that the remaining oil marketing companies are expected to follow suit shortly as part of ongoing quality control measures. The matter is currently under review by authorities to ensure fuel standards are strictly maintained nationwide.
