Manipur: CoTU suspends Kangpokpi shutdown for seven days, sets deadline for government action

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has announced a seven-day suspension of the ongoing shutdown in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. This decision follows the abduction and subsequent killing of two Kuki youths, which had triggered widespread protests and a total blockade in the region. The committee stated that the suspension provides the state government a window to address their specific demands. The bodies of Paoginlal Hangshing and Tinginlun Chongloi remain in the morgue, as the committee has refused to accept them until their charter of demands is officially fulfilled by the authorities. CoTU has warned that it will resume the shutdown and intensify agitation if the government fails to meet these demands within the seven-day deadline. Sit-in protests are scheduled to continue at various locations across the district during this period.
