EC launches special summary revision of electoral rolls in six states and UTs

The Election Commission of India (EC) announced a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls covering six states and union territories. The fast‑track exercise is intended to purge duplicate or multiple entries and will culminate in the publication of the final revised rolls on January 21. The EC has directed that every deletion application must undergo on‑ground field verification before any name is removed, particularly where repeated or multiple entries are alleged. Officials said the accelerated revision will streamline voter lists ahead of upcoming elections, improve accuracy and reduce the chances of disenfranchisement. The final rolls, once released, will serve as the authoritative voter list for all elections in the affected regions.
