In Delhi’s Mustafabad, BJP Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have triggered a controversy by filing Form 7 applications to delete names from the electoral rolls. Reports indicate that nearly 68% of all deletion requests in the area were submitted by these agents, exclusively targeting Muslim electors. The forms cite reasons like 'permanently shifted' or 'death' to justify the removal of these voters from the registry. This move highlights the systemic fragility of our electoral verification process. When political foot soldiers act as the primary gatekeepers of voter rolls, the line between administrative duty and partisan maneuvering blurs dangerously. The reliance on such agents to verify residency status often leads to mass challenges that disproportionately affect specific communities, raising serious questions about the neutrality of the ground-level verification process. Such targeted mass-deletion drives risk disenfranchising genuine voters and eroding public trust in the democratic process.
