Artist Robert Wilson has created a striking 10-foot, 1,280-pound sculpture of a jackrabbit named Run using salvaged components from a 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air. Located in Babe Ruth Park in Gallup, the monumental artwork celebrates the 100th anniversary of the legendary highway and invites travelers to appreciate its unique recycled design. Wilson used a plasma torch to cut the car into pieces before welding them into the shape of a mid-hop rabbit. The sculpture retains the original paint, wear, and rust of the vehicle to preserve its history. Notably, the rabbit's left eye features the car's original speedometer permanently set at 66 miles per hour as a nod to Route 66. Positioned near Interstate 40, the installation faces the historic El Rancho Hotel and joins a long tradition of quirky roadside attractions along the historic route.
